Job Summary:

The Facilities & Transportation Assistant is responsible for overseeing volunteer staff and Club members involved in transportation services while ensuring the safety of all members, staff, and the public. This position also oversees assigned activities to maintain Boys & Girls Club buildings, utilizing appropriate tools and materials for building upkeep. Duties include maintaining and repairing vehicles, replacing electrical switches and fixtures, painting, performing minor plumbing and electrical repairs, and securing buildings after work hours. Additional responsibilities include reporting safety hazards, assisting with special events, recruiting members, soliciting sponsors for programs and events, and fostering a positive image in the community.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Perform general maintenance and repairs for Boys & Girls Club buildings, including custodial tasks as needed.
  2. Conduct light maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, minor plumbing, and electrical repairs.
  3. Replace or repair minor building features and surfaces; clean or replace filters as required.
  4. Paint structures, maintain wood surfaces, and remove/replace defective fixtures.
  5. Identify and use proper tools and equipment for assigned projects while maintaining inventory of supplies.
  6. Report safety hazards, damages, and maintenance needs to the supervisor.
  7. Ensure compliance with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, City, and State safety codes.
  8. Secure buildings after hours and assist with set-up and breakdown for special events.
  9. Plan and manage route schedules for after-school transportation programs.
  10. Transport youth to and from schools and Club events, ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.
  11. Maintain discipline and provide safety instructions for youth during transportation.
  12. Conduct routine inspections and cleaning of vehicles, checking water, gas, oil, and overall mechanical condition.
  13. Report delays, accidents, and vehicle defects to the supervisor, ensuring vehicles adhere to regular maintenance schedules.
  14. Assist with other tasks and projects as assigned, contributing to the overall mission and goals of the Boys & Girls Club.

Conditions of Employment:


  1. Applicant will be subject to a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration.
  2. Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense.
  3. Must have a current valid class "B" commercial driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record. Prefer CDL with Passenger Endorsement.
  4. Completion of first aid and driving courses.
  5. Recommended that drivers have State of Texas Bus Driver's Certification and must attend ongoing defensive driving training.
  6. Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.

Required Education:

High School diploma, GED or equivalency

Associates Degree

Educational Substitute:

Related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education

and experience.

Required Work Experience:

Two (2) years' experience in maintenance field

One (1) year of experience in bus or similar vehicle operation.

Experience Preference:

Combination of education, training and experience equivalent to two years in a related technical trade.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


a) A comprehensive knowledge of construction and maintenance standards

b) Knowledge of OSHA Standards, Safe Drinking Water Standards, all appropriate life safety and fire and health codes, Americans with Disabilities Act and applicable state and local building codes

c) Knowledge and safe use of cleaning compounds and solvents used in the line of custodial maintenance

d) Knowledge of procurement requirements including blanket purchase arrangements, solicitation of bids for goods and services.

e) Requires a working knowledge of building maintenance and custodial procedures.

f) Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization.

g) Ability to perform the duties related to carpentry, repairs, minor plumbing and electrical as requested, and other related cleaning materials.

h) Working knowledge in the operation of light and heavy school buses and vans in transporting club members.

i) Training on highway safety rules and regulations.

j) Must be in good physical condition.

k) Must have vision in both eyes.

The job has minimum hazards associated with lifting equipment. Moderate hazards associated in transporting and supervising at risk youth and the physical demands are moderate. Perform physical and manual work as lifting, bending, stooping, walking on uneven surfaces, on a daily basis, and/or using force equal to lifting 20-50 pounds in weight periodically (trash cans, tables, recreation equipment, misc. equip.

Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this class, the incumbent is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve complex problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; perform highly detailed work under changing, intensive deadlines on multiple concurrent tasks; work with constant interruptions; and interact with staff and the public.
