Job Summary:

The Director of Social Support Services provides therapeutic and behavioral support for children and families to promote success in the Club, school, home and community. Integrating a social and emotional lens to their work, the Social Worker provides impactful prevention, promotion, early intervention, and support services including group sessions, case management, consultation, crisis intervention, grief support and referral work. The Director of Social Support Services will work collaboratively with Club employees, public school district employees and other public entities to recruit children and connect the family to any and all appropriate care. The Social Worker will effectively manage a caseload and clinical documentation while adhering to an evidence-based practice framework to manage and encourage progress for Club Members. Clinical work is guided by BGCE RGV's four pillars of care: cultural competence, financial accessibility, convenience for families, and trauma-informed care.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Supervises the daily operations of Youth and Family Support Services and ensures implementation and program deliverables are completed.
  2. Provides onsite leadership, supervision, training, and evaluation to staff and volunteers including student interns and mental health staff.
  3. Conducts weekly staff meetings with team and communicates clearly with supervisor and team regarding grant and programmatic deliverables and timelines.
  4. Completes initial screenings/intakes, ISP's (individual service plans) which includes club programs, direct services, and information and referral services.
  5. Familiarity with community resources available to youth.
  6. Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality of Club Members' records.
  7. Models professional behavior in accordance with the Social Work Code of Ethics.
  8. Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with local community agencies and connects Club and community resources for members and families.
  9. Serves as Liaison between the Club and external partners.
  10. Attends school events and supports mental health efforts.
  11. Keeps staff and partners informed about Boys and Girls Club programs, activities, and events.
  12. Responds to referrals from schools, and other outside agencies.
  13. Develop and implement individual and/or group interventions.
  14. Develop and lead parent information session on various topics.
  15. Develop and implement professional development for club staff.
  16. Plans and hosts special family events that promote wellbeing.
  17. Performs related work and reports as assigned.

Conditions of Employment:

  2. Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense.
  3. Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
  4. May be requested to obtain a Class B driver's license with passenger endorsement.
  5. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Required Education:

Bachelor Degree in Social Work or related field/ License issued by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners at time of hire or within 60 days of hire date.

Education Preference:

Master of Social Work with licensure (LMSW)

Required Work Experience:

Three (3) years' experience in youth development management

Experience Preference:

Four (4) years of experience in youth development management

Supervisory Experience Requirement:

One (1) year of experience supervising volunteers, part-time, or full-time staff

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  1. Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  2. Knowledge of crisis intervention and risk assessment with ability to respond to trauma or psychiatric emergencies.
  3. Skill in providing care appropriate to the age of the patients served within the clinic setting.
  4. Skill in establishing a therapeutic alliance and engaging the patient in collaborative goal setting and prioritizing patient needs.
  5. Has experience and skill using youth-focused curriculums on topics including but not limited to: anxiety, depression & suicide, LGBTQ issues, healthy relationships, grief, substance use, domestic violence, gang-related conflict, general stress and bullying.
  6. Must have knowledge of crisis intervention and risk assessment with ability to respond to trauma or psychiatric emergencies.
  7. Skill in providing care appropriate to the age of the patients served within the clinic setting.
  8. Skill in establishing a therapeutic alliance and engaging the patient in collaborative goal setting and prioritizing patient needs.
  9. Must have experience and skill using youth-focused curriculums on topics including but not limited to: anxiety, depression & suicide, LGBTQ issues, healthy relationships, grief, substance use, domestic violence, gang-related conflict, general stress and bullying.
  10. Must be able to understand, read and follow written and oral directions/instructions.
  11. Must be in good physical condition. Must have the ability to supervise/coordinate programs.
  12. Must have good writing skills, strong leadership qualities, the ability to coordinate, inspire and motivate others and the ability to work effectively without direct supervision.
  13. Must have good public relations ability. Sensitive to the needs of youth/teens.
