A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A REFERENCE SUPERVISOR

As a Reference Supervisor, you are responsible for maintaining the adult collections by managing, assessing, selecting and deselecting books, media and digital resources that reflects the interests and needs of the community. Your work typically involves planning, coordinating, evaluating and assisting with library programs; assist with publicity, contact speakers, vendors and participants. Work with community organizations to develop partnerships and outreach initiatives. Your job is essential to the city, and you provide patron assistance at reference desk with finding information, navigate databases, usage of digital and print resources and with technology questions related to library resources. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. This can include attending events and seminars to stay current with the latest developments and technologies. You also manage and update the library's website and social media accounts. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed. The city needs someone like you with skills in customer service, and you find genuine enjoyment in what you do!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A REFERENCE SUPERVISOR

• Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • Preferred: Master's Degree in Library Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association.

• Educational Substitute: Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.

• Requires three (3) year experience in Library management experience.

• • Preferred: Five (5) years' experience in related field.
• Requires at least three (3) years of supervisory experience.
• Must be bilingual in English and Spanish
• Must have a current and valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety
