Animal Care Officer

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ANIMAL CARE OFFICER

As an Animal Care Officer, you spend your day enforcing City ordinances and laws regarding animals through the governance of the licensing, impoundment and treatment of animals. Other duties include creating recurring reports and records, assembling information, servicing the public with tact and resourcefulness, while maintaining a thorough knowledge of animal control policies and procedures and other duties as required. You will oversee the maintenance and operation of the Animal Control facility, grounds, vehicles, and equipment. You will also keep current and enforcing codes and ordinance regarding vaccinations, licenses, and leash laws. As part of your job you will issue citations for violations, investigate and handle complaints from the public, respond to emergency calls, patrol city for stray or dangerous animals. When you are not out in the city, you maintain and operate the animal control facility. Assists in annual budget for Animal Control Division. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed. QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN ANIMAL CARE OFFICER

  • Required Education: Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
    • Education Preference: Associates Degree
  • Required Work Experience: No experience required.
    • Experience Preference: One (1) year of related experience.
  • Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must obtain an Animal Control Certification; Euthanasia Certification; Animal Tranquilizer Certification within one (1) year of employment.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
