BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:
Individual must be able to instruct children about the correct way to play tennis and participate in tennis tournaments. Must be seventeen (17) years of age or older. Must possess experience in the area of tennis. Employee must be able to execute schedules for practices for all participants. Must be able to teach fundamentals of tennis and pre-match warm ups to children of all ages. Individual is responsible for assisting in the organizing of tennis tournaments and out of town events with school districts, local Parks and Recreation Department, coaches, and organizations within the community. Employee must have thorough knowledge of the game of tennis, scoring procedures, and tournament bracket preparation. Employee must possess thorough knowledge of the rules of UTSA/NJTL tennis. Employee must demonstrate excellent public relation skills and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with the Head Tennis Instructors, parents, and children of all ages. Must be able to work flexible hours and go to various tennis tournaments throughout the Rio Grande Valley and have own transportation to and from work sites. The individual is required to be at the work site fifteen (15) minutes prior to start of game/practice at respective facility. Some job duties are inspection of facilities for dangerous situations, objects, broken equipments and to take appropriate, immediate actions necessary; must report to immediate supervisor of all events, accidents, and incidents at once; requires individual to fill out necessary paper work that pertains to position such as time sheets, accidents, and incident reports. Requires individual to handle public relation situations in the proper manner and provide the necessary reports filed immediately. Employee reports to the Superintendent of Recreation at the Parks and Recreation Department.
EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS:
General tennis equipment, tennis rackets, tennis balls, etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Individual works outdoors. The job has no significant hazards and the physical demands are low.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
1. Inspect facilities for dangerous situations, objects (glass, nails, rocks, etc.), and take appropriate, immediate action as necessary to alleviate the problem area, and report to the Superintendent of Recreation or proper authority about these matters immediately.
2. Responsibilities include being the eyes and ears for the Parks and Recreation Department at all times. Specifically, prevent accidents before they happen by using good judgement, listen to complaints and suggestions made by patrons and participants.
3. In the event of emergencies, individual must contact the police department by dialing 911 immediately.
EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIRED:
Must possess experience in the area of tennis. Requires working knowledge of the rules of USTA/NJTL tennis. Other specialized job requirements include good public relations ability, and the ability to supervise and handle situations that may arise. Valid Texas Drivers License (Class AC@) with satisfactory driving record.
