Individual will monitor and score keep baseball, softball, volleyball, flag football, kickball, and basketball games for youth and/or adults in a proper manner. Work during special events. Monitors are required to be at the work site 30 minutes prior to start of game at respective facility. Inspect fields and facilities for dangerous situations, objects, (glass, nails, rocks, etc.), broken equipment (bases, score boxes, scoreboards, lights, etc.), take appropriate immediate action as necessary to alleviate the problem area, and report to the Superintendent of Recreation or proper authority about these matters as soon as possible. Responsibilities include being the eyes and ears for the Parks & Recreation Department at all times. Specifically, prevent accidents before they happen by using good judgment, listen for complaints or suggestions made by coaches, patrons, and players. Monitor must fill out proper forms, details are essential, must include the monitors, umpires or officials, dates, time of incident mentioned, witnesses, and must complete them at the time of the incident. It is advised to have an extra quarter available in order to use the pay telephones at each complex or facility.
Monitors are responsible for score keeping for the above mentioned sport leagues, collecting all rosters at the beginning of a new season. All teams will be required to submit a roster before the start of a scheduled game. A 24 hour cancellation notice is required by the monitor if unable to make assigned duties. All scheduled employees will help in closing down a facility after the last scheduled game is completed. Be courteous to all patrons, players, and managers/captains at all times. Use 55 minute game clocks at Edinburg Municipal Park on all scheduled softball games to eliminate discrepancies in times. Monitor illegal players who are playing in two different calibers of leagues, playing under different names, or have not been legally added to team rosters, Report violations of these rules to supervisor or take appropriate authority action immediately.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Individual will work indoors in well-lighted, air conditioned facility as well as outdoors to oversee programs. The job has no significant hazards and the physical demands are low.
Requires one (1) year of experience in recreation work. Must be 16 years of age or older. Requires a thorough working knowledge of recreation athletic games, operation, and procedures. Other specialized job requirements include good public relations skills and the ability to supervise and control situations in a professional manner that might arise during the job.
Valid Texas Drivers License (Class "C") with satisfactory driving record. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, but not required
