The purpose of this position is to monitor and control all Police Departments' computer systems.  Other duties include assisting with installations, implementations, and deployments of various pieces of software, conducting preventative maintenance, providing technical and staff support, and other duties as required.





Requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained through two (2) years of college in a related field or equivalent from a technical or vocational school. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training. Prior job experience of at least two (2) years in a related field will also be acceptable. 


Requires one (1) to three (3) years' experience in LAN/WAN and Computer/Networking related field.  





  • Applicant will be subject to a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration.
  • Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense.
  • Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
  • Must be able to pass Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) licensing and maintain the license.





  • Requires a working knowledge of networking, Microsoft Windows operating systems, and ability to determine various computer peripheral problems.
  • Knowledge on routers, switches, wireless access points, firewalls, ASA appliances, and WI-FI; work with Windows 7, 10 and server operating systems.
  • Written and verbal communications skills.
  • Work requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environments; includes Office 365, office 2013, Acrobat, database management, record keeping and Google Apps.
  • Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to terminate, assemble, and install the computer cables necessary to allow user interaction between Patch Panels, Switches, routers and other peripheral devices.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot problems associated with personal computers, Mobile data Terminal (MDT), PC users on the Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) environments; configure backup and restoration of network devices; Implement network security practices with configuration of network devices.
  • Install, maintain backup and restore IBM, Dell, and HP computer, laptops and servers running Microsoft Windows 7, 8.1, 10 and Windows Server 2008, 2012 operating systems; SAN and NAS systems; Cisco routers, switches wireless access points; Cradlepoint network systems; NetMotion Mobility Firewalls, and Cisco Unified Call Manager.
  • Install, configure and monitor peripheral equipment such as body cameras, handheld devices and other, data communication equipment.
  • Assist in the setup, configuration, maintenance and troubleshoot of records management system; Computer aided dispatch (CAD), Jail, property room management; Texas law enforcement technologies systems (TLETS); Bosch crash data retrieval (CDR) - Event data recorder (EDR); Digital evidence management; Electronic citation software; Court management system (CMS); Fingerprint, palm print and biometric identification and verification system; Imaging, scanning and identity management software, Electronic filing software; Fax appliances; Tip management software; Printing management system and security camera systems; Mobile computer aided dispatch; In-car video systems & body cameras for Police; Crash Reporting and Analysis for safer Highways system (CRASH).
  • Assist with installation, maintenance, and mounting of cameras in designated spots; retrieve any requested video from the DVR systems; monitor system to ensure functionality and daily operation.
  • Oversee the configuration of the VoIP Phone System; assist users of the functions of the phone and with voicemail setup.
  • Coordinate the execution of various simultaneous jobs as to allow for proper completion of each specific job.
  • Monitor critical computer systems and devices for error messages during peak and off-peak time, 24 hours a day 7 day of the week, 365 day of the year, when required.
  • Schedule service calls; interact with all users at all levels and also occasional interaction with vendors for supplies and equipment on a daily basis, which requires tact, courtesy and diplomacy.
  • Programing personalities and alignment of police radios.
  • Proper maintenance of power connection, antenna connection of police radios in police vehicles.
  • Observe departmental attendance requirement.
